12th Annual 2008

Even with the downturn in the economy and somewhat limited funds, the ITA was able to make the holidays a little brighter for approximately 100 children and their families this year.   Thanks to a generous donation from Irving Materials, Inc. in Greenfield, troopers from across Indiana met with deserving children and their families at Wal-Mart locations in their respective areas to shop for new clothes and toys.

In an effort to avoid duplication of assistance, the ITA asked for family names to be submitted from within the Indiana State Police family.   State Police Post Commanders, Public Information Officers, Chaplains and ITA Board of Directors were asked to provide the names of fellow officers, civilian staff members, or families from their own communities who were in need of a “helping hand” during the holidays.

The troopers submitting the family names then contacted the families and made arrangements to meet the families at a location and time convenient to all for their shopping venture.   Troopers reported more clothing items, including boots, gloves, hats, selected this year than toys, games and other items.   As always, the reports from our troopers, as well as the photographs received, let us know that the program was well-received and that the Spirit of Giving and Sharing is “alive and well” within the ITA and the ISP.
