2006 David Deuter Memorial Statewide
5th Grade Essay Contest
The 10th Annual Essay Contest for 5th graders was again very successful with entries from 85 out of 92 counties participating. A number of counties provided several entries, while in some areas only one essay was received.
During the last weeks of the school year, Indiana State Troopers assisted the ITA by attending end of year awards programs at the county winner’s schools to present Award Certificates to essay contest winners on their home turf. Approximately 75 officers participated in this portion of the essay program.
On June 16th, all county winners, their families and school officials were invited to the Indiana State House as guests of the ITA for the Statewide Awards Program. At this event, Lt. Governor Becky Skillman, Indiana State Police Supt. Paul Whitesell, as well as ITA officials addressed the students.
Following the program, awards were presented to the winners. The Statewide Winner for 2006 was Steven Foushi of White County. He received a $1,000 U.S. Savings Bond for his efforts. The Runners-up, listed below, each received $750.00 in U.S. Savings Bonds and the County Winners also listed, each received $500.00 in U.S. Savings Bonds. In total, we awarded over $50,000 in bonds and gifts to the future Good Citizens of the State of Indiana!
