Karen joined the ITA staff in 1996 as a part-time Administrative Assistant.  While she has never been employed by the Indiana State Police, the department's members and activities are near and dear to her heart.  She is married to Kenneth Shelton, who retired from the ISP in 1981.

Karen's current responsibilities as Director of Operations for the association include administration of the day-to-day activities of the Corporate Office.  She coordinates the production of The Trooper Magazine and composes most of the articles. Karen coordinates the various programs that are offered through the association to its members and deserving families across Indiana.

A native of Tennessee, Karen was an Executive Secretary and Meeting Coordinator for Coachmen Industries and worked as an Administrative Assistant for Cameron Memorial Hospital in Angola, prior to joining the ITA staff.  She truly enjoys working with people and providing support for our officers across the state.

She and Ken share four grown children, eight grandchildren ranging from 3 months to 17 years, and their dachshund, Rusty.
